French youngster joins Rob Mac for Croft
Rob Mac Racing has announced that Loris Baz will make his MCE British Superbike Championship debut at Croft in place of the injured Andrew Pitt.
The 17-year-old is currently racing in the FIM Superstock 1000 series having won the 2008 Superstock 600 title at the age of just 15.
Contracted by Yamaha France, Baz will now get the chance to sample the R1 Superbike when he takes over from Pitt, who is still recovering from a broken collarbone sustained in an accident at Brands Hatch.
A bold signing for the Rob Mac team, who had been planning to test Baz after Croft, team manager Rob McElnea is excited to be entrusted with giving the Frenchman his competition Superbike debut.
"This is a great opportunity for my team," he said. "Wwe had planned to test Loris after Croft but with Andrew not fully fit we decided to enter Loris in the Croft event. At 15 he won the World Junior Superstock and is tipped to be one of the new stars of the future.
"Loris follows the British Championships, watching all the Brits at the front of the World Superbike races every weekend he knows the series is the most competitive in the World and can't wait to join in.
"Yamaha France are very supportive of Loris joining our team and the British Championships, and thanks to them, Yamaha Europe and Yamaha UK we have managed to get this together. Dan Linfoot raced with Loris in 2008 and is looking forward to showing him around his home circuit."
Baz becomes the fourth rider to assume the RMR Yamaha R1 this season, following Neil Hodgson, Ian Lowry and Pitt.
