Alex Lowes joins Motorpoint Yamaha

Alex Lowes has confirmed he will see out the remainder of the 2011 MCE British Superbike Championship season with Motorpoint Yamaha.

Following the announcement that he has parted ways with MSS Colchester Kawasaki, the 20-year-old has landed a new ride almost straight away with Rob McElnea's BSB team.

Branding his season as a 'rollercoaster ride', Lowes began the year with BSB EVO outfit WFR Honda, before a switch to MSS Colchester Kawasaki yielded a stunning pole position on his debut. However, his subsequent decline in form was the impetus for the decision to part ways with the Kawasaki UK-backed team after just five rounds together.

Nonetheless, Lowes relishing the chance to get on the Yamaha R1, having also ridden the Castrol Honda CBR1000RR on the World Superbike stage this year.

"This is an amazing opportunity for me, 2011 has been a roller coaster season with some very steep learning curves, everyone I have worked with over the year has been great and I thank them for giving me the break, circumstances now have given me the chance to get one of the best bikes in the championship and I really want to pay Rob and the Motorpoint team back for their belief in me"

Having begun the season with Loris Baz and James Westmoreland, Motorpoint Yamaha complete the final three events with Lowes alongside Tommy Bridewell, who made his debut with the team at Cadwell Park.

For McElnea, he feels this is an ideal line-up to end a troublesome season on a high, describing Bridewell and Lowes as 'the future;

"We have managed to turn around the year and really get my team and our partners fired up, both Tommy and Alex are the future and are in the early stages of their careers, both very fast and committed, these are two 'old school' riders here for race day and the battle! It will be our job to try and keep them calm and help them develop their skills.

"My team have worked with some of the best young riders in their early years including Championship leader Tommy Hill, I would like to think our experience has helped them all, we can see in both Tommy and Alex potential stars of the future and hope they can deliver us a great end to the season"
