Stoner to Crutchlow: I still use the old brakes
MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner has told Cal Crutchlow not to assume he would be better off with the new Brembo brakes.
The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team has not purchased the latest equipment, but Crutchlow's team-mate Andrea Dovizioso has apparently chosen to pay for the brakes himself.
Crutchlow's mechanic Steve Blackburn (@steveblackburn1) estimates the cost at around EUR60,000 for the whole season, adding:
"Dovi's brakes are not really better, same brake pressure needed, biggest difference is 25% longer pad so cooler disc temp."
But with some now suggesting a fund for Crutchlow to avoid any 'brake bias', Stoner has added his own advice to the Englishman via Twitter:
Stoner (@Official_CS27): "Hey mate don't go thinking everything new is better, I still use the old brakes as I didn't like the new ones. No advantages."
Crutchlow (@CalCrutchlow): "Hey mate. No I just want them as dovi has them..., hahahaha. I have prob with mine overheating though."
Stoner: "I had more problems with the new ones, more touchy and no more power in the long run. Don't let what Dovi has get in your way."
Crutchlow and Dovizioso, who both fell while battling for a podium in last Sunday's wet French MotoGP at Le Mans, are fourth and fifth respectively in the 2012 championship standings - and separated by just one-point.
