Coulthard And Schumacher Make It Up

David Coulthard and Michael Schumacher have made their peace at Monza, following the Belgian Grand Prix incident which removed the German from the race.

The pair met in the Williams motorhome and talked for over an hour and a half in a bid to bury the hatchet. When they emerged, both agreed that all was well between them, and that they would have no problems racing against each other this weekend.

The pair met in the Williams motorhome and talked for over an hour and a half in a bid to bury the hatchet. When they emerged, both agreed that all was well between them, and that they would have no problems racing against each other this weekend.

Although neither driver was keen to discuss the details of their meeting, Coulthard admitted that it had helped to clear the air. (There are some things I see differently now,) said the Scot, (and some things I believe he sees differently now. I trust his words and I feel comfortable we can now go racing wheel-to-wheel like we have in the past.)

(We are grown men and this is not a war, this is sport,) he added, (There is no ill-feeling between the two of us.)

Schumacher was asked about the meeting when he attended the Thursday morning press conference, and admitted that he now realised that Coulthard did not deliberately take him out of the Belgian race. Nevertheless, the German refused to apologise for his subsequent appearance in the McLaren pit.

(After looking into it, you'd say there was a situation that was unfortunate,) said Schumacher, (but he didn't do anything on purpose to get me out of the race. However, I know what I felt at the time, but it was not the intention to have body contact [with Coulthard]. It was to impress my words. I've never tried to hit anyone. That's not my understanding of life.
