Miss Fortune not on Bonenberg side.

The fourth motocross grand prix of the season did not go as well as the Bonenberg Racing team had hoped, with Kevin Strijbos only able to stay in the race for about ten minutes and Wyatt Avis not scoring any points.

As was the case two weeks ago, there were only smiling faces in Gert Jan Bonenberg's team on Saturday. Both Suzuki riders qualified for the main event on Sunday, despite Avis falling while lying tenth, and Strijbos having to start from the back of the field. While the Dutchman flew through the field to take an eventual second place, Avis had to go again in the last chance race, but led early on before finishing third behind Marc de Reuver and Jeff Dement.

As he had in qualifying, Avis made an awesome start to Sunday's final, and was able to get into the first corner in second position. Strijbos did not have as much luck as he had had the previous day, and was forced to start his race in 22nd position.

Wyatt was forced to concede to eventual winner Steve Ramon quite early in the race, but was able to stay in the top five for a long time thereafter. Only when the French rider Lettelier crashed did things look bleak for the South African for, despite his best efforts to avoid the fallen rider, Avis was still delayed and dropped back to 25th place. A quick recovery brought him back into a battle with American Tallon Vohland for 18th but the onset of arm pump subsequently dropped Avis back to a point-less 22nd.

The Bonenberg team's disappointment had begun as early as the fourth lap, however, when Strijbos' bike stopped on one of the French courses steep hills and he was just able to keep himself from falling down.

"What a pity for Kevin, who most likely has a technical problem in his bike," commiserated team manager Mark van Espelo, "Wyatt was riding really well until he began his battle with Vohland. He should not have done that. He should have stayed behind him and tried to get more to the front with him. Of course, I am a little disappointed, but not because of the determined riders."
