BSB riders head for Supermoto finale.

A number of British Superbike Championship riders are planning to take on the UK's best Supermoto riders after signing up to compete in the final round of the Vivaldi British Supermoto Championship, at the Three Sisters Circuit in Wigan, on the 4th of December.

With most of the major British bike racing series having drawn to a close, the British Supermoto finale represents one of the last opportunities for top-flight racing in 2005 - with the Superbike riders attracted by the chance to race motocross machines on a mixed dirt and asphalt course.

Confirmed riders include multiple Isle of Man TT winner and BSB regular John McGuiness. The gifted all-rounder, who recently finished second at the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, has also tried his hand at Supermoto on a number of occasions in the past and is looking to push the British Championship regulars as hard as he can on a Honda in the SM2 class.

Vivaldi Racing BSB riders will also be out in force: Ben Wilson, who scored several top ten finishes this year, will be riding in the SM1 class alongside team-mate Ollie Bridewell - who himself finished fifth in the Superstock championship with a numerous podiums. Superstock rider Aaron Zanotti will also be taking part after a top 15 performance in the 2005 championship.

Another member of the Bridewell clan, Tommy - who had a very successful season in the Virgin Mobile Cup where he finished third with four wins - will be taking part in the SM2 class on a KTM. Meanwhile, the British Supersport Championship will be represented by seasoned campaigner Tom Tunstall, who has considerable experience on a Supermoto machine.

Heading into the round, Matt Winstanley has already won the Supermoto SM2 class, but it is still all to play for in SM1 and the SM4 class for juniors.

SM1 has seen spectacular racing all season with rivals Winstanley and Christian Iddon banging bars at almost every outing. Iddon has had the edge in the big bike class in most encounters, but Winstanley has pushed him all the way losing out in the last race of the day at the recently held round at Rowrah by just seven thousandths of a second.

Others established Supermoto specialists at the event will be world championship rider Sam Warren and Belgian regular Fred Fiorentino. Veteran Ady Smith has found some form recently with Danny Tollett, Andy Mitchell and Matt Gordon also likely to figure highly in the final results.

The format for the weekend is practice on Saturday the 3rd December from 10am with racing on Sunday 4th getting underway at 9.30am.
