Jacques Villeneuve's lap of Suzuka.

Lucky Strike BAR Honda driver Jacques Villeneuve describes a lap of Suzuka, venue for this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix:

''Along the main start/finish straight the acceleration is downhill. Quick acceleration to turns one and two that make up the First Curve corners. The first part you go in flat. You just lift as you turn in and you start breaking at the apex of the corner because the real corner is the second section. You can still go off in turn one though. It's a very difficult and impressive corner to do.''

You just lift as you turn in and you start breaking at the apex of the corner because the real corner is the second section. You can still go off in turn one though. It's a very difficult and impressive corner to do.''

''You're braking as you're turning and you just go into turn two and slow down a little bit more before you accelerate out and arrive at a great section - a left-right-left-right section, so four corners in a row that make up the S Curve complex.''

''In fact it's actually five corners in a row because the Dunlop Curve is really part of it too. It's very fast. The first part is a quick left. It's a little lift. You just turn the car in as you turn left. You have to keep the car very tight so you don't damage your next corner, which is a little bit slower again. You just slow it down again for the right-hander and on that one as well you don't want to be too wide. Then you have another left-hander that's a little bit faster. The car is lighter because you've been going up and when you're turning left the track starts going down all of a sudden and it's a little bit blind.''

''Just as the track goes down you have to slow down for the last part of the S Curves, the right-hander at the bottom. At the middle of this right-hander the track starts going up again. Then it's a flat left-hander, Dunlop Curve. All that part of the track is very physical and exciting.''

''Then you get into the two Degner corners. The first one isn't an easy corner. It's a kink but a very fast kink so a little lift and you just have to not make the apex. It's not really a nice corner. Then it's a short straight with not much acceleration to get into Degner 2, which is a slowish corner with heavy braking. It's not 180 degree turn - I think more like 150 degrees, so not a full hairpin. It's a banked corner and it's a lot faster than you visually think it is. It's a difficult corner.''

''Accelerate out of that and at the end of that acceleration there's a little kink to the right, just before the first sector timing zone, which means that you have to hit the brakes in the middle of the kink just as you come out. Then it's very, very heavy braking into the 80 km/h Hairpin. This is a very difficult section to do. It's very difficult because it's hard to figure out where to hit the brakes without losing control of the car. This is a full 180 degree hairpin.''

''Then you have long stretch of track - Turn 12 - that you accelerate through. As the name suggests, it is not a straight, but a long right-hander that's flat out. Then it's into Spoon Curve, which is really two very nice corners. The first part is a 90 degree but very long corner. A little tap on the brakes and you throw the car in. It's very important to carry a lot of speed into the corner but then when you exit that corner, it's not straight. It's still turning a little bit and as soon as you come out of the corner you have to slow down for the second section. The second section is very difficult and when you brake the track starts going down as well. Spoon Curve is difficult but a lot of fun. You can lose a lot of time there.''

''Then you get a long straight which is flat out on a qualifying lap. Maybe 290/300 kph. 130R is midway along this section and is a flat-out turn that gets you into a short straight where you have the heaviest braking of the whole lap into the last chicane at the Casio Triangle. This is a very tight chicane. It's a useless, annoying corner, but there is a small overtaking opportunity there.''

''After Spa-Francorchamps, Suzuka is my favourite circuit. Actually depending on where you get the set-up right on the car - either Spa or Suzuka - is my favourite. It's hard to choose between the two circuits.''

''I like racing in Japan. It's the last race of the year and it's fun. It's exciting and being with a Japanese manufacturer makes it great.''
