2024 F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix - Race Day - As it happened

Leclerc goes on the attack against Piastri, but the McLaren manages to defend into Turn 1. Great defending from the Australian for the lead.

He's now stuck behind Albon and Norris in the fight for fifth. With Norris getting DRS off Albon, there's no chance of getting past. 

Piastri, Leclerc, Perez, Sainz, Albon, Norris, Verstappen, Russell, Alonso, Colapinto, Hulkenberg, Gasly, Bearman, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Zhou, Ocon, Bottas and Stroll.

Piastri puts in another fastest lap of the race as he sets a 1m47.066s - but Leclerc is still in DRS range.

With his F1 title rival right behind, Norris defends aggressively from Verstappen.

Sainz overtakes Norris into Turn 1 with the McLaren driver still yet to make a pit stop. 

"I am struggling a little bit," he reports. He's in fifth and yet to make a pit stop. 

Piastri, Leclerc, Perez, Albon, Norris, Sainz, Verstappen, Russell, Alonso, Colapinto, Gasly, Ricciardo, Hulkenberg, Bearman, Hamilton, Zhou, Ocon, Stroll and Bottas.

What a move from Piastri. A great lunge into Turn 1 on Leclerc to take the lead of the race on Lap 20.

Perez finally gets past Albon into Turn 1 for third. 

In terms of the top two, Piastri is now in DRS range of Leclerc.

Tsunoda is out of the race.

He rejoins in sixth - behind Norris but crucially ahead of Verstappen.

A smooth stop from Leclerc which allows him to join in second behind his teammate.

Piastri rejoins ahead of Perez. Good team work from McLaren there to ensure Piastri got ahead of Perez on track

Piastri pits for fresh rubber as Norris is told to hold Perez up. How will this play out? 

Leclerc, Piastri, Sainz, Albon, Norris, Perez, Hulkenberg, Verstappen, Russell, Gasly, Ricciardo, Alonso, Colapinto, Zhou, Ocon, Bearman, Stroll, Hamilton, Bottas and Tsunoda.

He comes in on Lap 13 for a set of hard tyres. Perez rejoins in sixth behind Norris.

Verstappen and Russell are the first of the leading group to come into the pit lane. They're both on fresh hard tyres as they come out on new hard tyres. 

He's now 4.6s ahead of Piastri at the front of the field. Mighty pace from Leclerc.

It's 3.6s between the top two with Leclerc controlling things from the front of the field.

Piastri's pace has stabilised now with Perez 1.8s behind.

Verstappen continues to struggle for pace relatively-speaking - 4.1s behind Sainz.

Leclerc, Piastri, Perez, Sainz, Verstappen, Russell, Alonso, Colapinto, Albon, Norris, Hulkenberg, Bearman, Ricciardo, Gasly, Hamilton, Tsunoda, Zhou, Bottas, Ocon and Stroll.

Perez is matching Leclerc's pace at the front - and is now running 1.3s behind Piastri in second.

He makes use of DRS to breeze past the Haas driver into Turn 1. Norris into 10th now. 

Leclerc has now gapped Piastri in terms of breaking DRS as he pumps in the fastest lap of the race. 1.4s between the top two now.
