Kvyat 'demoted' to Toro Rosso for season
Daniil Kvyat will return to the Toro Rosso team he made his F1 debut with in 2014 following the decision to replace him with Max Verstappen at Red Bull.
The Russian stepped up to the Red Bull 'A Team' in 2015 as a replacement for the Ferrari-bound Sebastian Vettel, but while he has managed two podiums since then and out-scored Daniel Ricciardo last year, it hasn't been enough to prevent him being ousted by Verstappen just four rounds into his 2016 campaign.
The move comes just a month after Kvyat scored Red Bull's only rostrum of the season thus far in China, but is also in the wake of a 'disastrous' race in Sochi when he eliminated Vettel in a lap one incident.
Kvyat will now see out the 2016 F1 season with Toro Rosso, where he will join Carlos Sainz, with highly-rated Verstappen paired with Ricciardo.
"Dany will be able to continue his development at Toro Rosso, in a team that he is familiar with, giving him the chance to regain his form and show his potential," said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.
Kvyat finished 15th in his first season of F1 racing with Toro Rosso in 2014, with a best finish of ninth.
