A new name could enter Formula One in the near future, as the engineering company Powertech plans to introduce its recently unveiled V10 to the sport.


The new unit is apparently ready to run, and has attracted the attention of several teams with a view to use in the year 2000 championship. Powertech claim that the engine is more powerful than the title winning Mercedes unit, whilst carrying better reliability, and is considerably lighter than most F1 powerplants.

F1 powerbroker Bernie Ecclestone has often pleaded for more engine companies to become involved in the category and, like several teams, will surely welcome this announcement. With Honda and Toyota also considering comebacks, Formula One could soon be spoilt for choice in the engine department, with teams benefiting from a wider choice of manufacturer.
