Silverstone Test - Day Two: 30 June 1999.

Mika Hakkinen and McLaren topped the times as the pre-British GP test got in to full swing at Silverstone.

After a quieter, less populated opening session, day two saw 18 drivers take to the track in good conditions. Hakkinen posted fastest time of the day, ahead of the surprising Jacques Villeneuve and Rubens Barrichello, as day one leader Michael Schumacher struggled to find the pace.

Separating Hakkinen from Schumacher in sixth, David Coulthard and Giancarlo Fisichella pointed to a promising race for McLaren and Benetton respectively, while Eddie Irvine (8th) was surprised to find his time almost matched by the Arrows of Pedro de la Rosa.

Jordan stand-ins Jos Verstappen and Shinji Nakano were disappointed to be some three seconds off Hakkinen's pace, in 15th and 16th positions, and the local team will hope that regular drivers Damon Hill and Heinz-Harald Frentzen can find the latter's French GP form when they join the test on Thursday and Friday.
