Sylvester Stallone's grand prix movie is now going to feature the Champcar series, after the actor ran into conflict with certain figures in the Formula One paddock.

According to the Rocky and Rambo star, there was another 'agenda' preventing him from taking the film and the storyline in its desired direction, and Stallone has now decided that it would be easier to make a film based around the American series instead. The actor had become a familiar figure in the F1 paddock over the past two years and, complete with the Jean Alesi cap he continually sported, appeared on several television broadcasts to promote his film idea.

"I apologise to fans of Formula One," Stallone said, "but there is a certain individual there who runs the sport who has his own agenda.

"F1 is very formal, and it's very hard to get to know people. Here in CART, it is much more open, and that will be reflected in the film. It is extremely important that we create a film that accurately depicts the true sense of CART - the emotion, the speed, the technology and the glamour that is Champcar racing."

Whereas the F1 film was slated to appear on the eve of the USGP this year, Stallone's new project - provisionally entitled Champs - is now expected to preview sometime in the summer of 2001.
