British American Racing feel that they will come out of the blocks with all cylinders firing at Melbourne in two weeks and are confident that, not only have they banished their dismal 1999 season into history, but that they also have the reliability to score points on a regular basis.

Adrian Reynard's BAR 01 chassis have completed over 6,000 kilometres of testing during the course of the winter and lead driver Jacques Villeneuve firmly believes that the car has the reliability to finish the early races and gain some valuable points as other teams are struck down by inevitable mechanical bothers.


There still remains a big question over the car's out and out speed and this has been magnified by the team's notable absence from the top of the time-sheets at all the major pre-season tests. The recent three day test at Jerez saw Villeneuve and team-mate Ricardo Zonta complete a vast amount of laps but the team's best time, 1:24.71 by Villeneuve on Friday, was one and a half seconds away from Eddie Irvine's 1:23.21 standard bearer.


B.A.R's Assistant team manager, Andrew Alsworth confirmed that the team were concentrating on their reliability saying, "[At Jerez] we are not focusing on performance work." However it must be said that many of the other teams ahead of BAR on the timesheets also said the same thing.
