UK television celebrity, Ross Kemp, took to his role as 'truckie' with the Jordan-Honda team, like a duck to water at the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend.
Before his arrival in Austria, Ross joined team members at Jordan's Silverstone Headquarters the weekend prior to the race to help with the 'pack up' of equipment and cars.
Under the guidance of Jordan's Chief Truckie, Gerard O'Reilly, Ross was willing to try his hand at varied tasks from unloading the trucks and setting up the garage, to being responsible for the tyre blankets on Jarno Trulli's car during track sessions. In between a full day's work with the race team, Ross still managed to take some time to learn lines for his next television role.
"Ross fitted in really well with the whole team and enjoyed joining in the team spirit. He's a great and genuine guy and just got stuck in to his tasks and was happy to get his hands dirty. We're looking forward to having him back with us for the French and British Grands Prix", commented Gerard.
At the end of the team's pit stop practice on Friday, Ross was able to experience at first hand some of the tasks undertaken by Jordan's 23-man pit stop crew. Firstly, he took the position of the rear right 'wheel off' man and then charge the hydraulic gun for a wheel change. Realising there was more to a pit stop than meets the eye, Ross commented with surprise, "The team make it look so easy!"
Unfortunately, Ross was unable to stay for the race on Sunday due to work commitments, although sharing in the team's disappointment from the Austrian Grand Prix, he called Gerard to say, "I can't believe it. After all that work I really feel for you all". A true testament to his enthusiasm and team spirit.
