The German, a frequent visitor to the United States as a holidaymaker, said that he had been saddened by the scenes that unfolded in New York and Washington earlier in the week, and expressed his hopes that something could be done to help those involved.

"It's pretty difficult to find the right expression for what has happened there and what we feel," the world champion admitted, "I think in all of us it's pretty much the same, and that what we do feel is, naturally, sympathy for all of them - we will support them as much as we can. It is a tough time we are looking forward to, and we have to keep improving things as much as we can to prevent this from happening again."
