BMW appoints new head of engine development.

Heinz Paschen, chief designer of the successful BMW Formula One project, will become the new general manager of the German company's F1 engine development in Munich from the end of the 2002 season.

The 49-year old entered the BMW F1 project as manager of design and calculation in January 2000, having previously worked for Toyota as the designer of the CART engine which current BMW Williams F1 pilot Juan Pablo Montoya raced to victory in the same season.

Paschen, who also raced motorcycles for a couple of years, will succeed Dr Werner Laurenz, who is leaving the company.
