The new deal with Twitter will feature 10 live post-race shows available to followers of the official F1 Twitter account, starting with the first broadcast on the social media platform taking place after the conclusion of the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix.
The show will include post-race analysis and interviews with drivers, team principals and engineers and will be presented by leading broadcaster Will Buxton, who is set to be joined by a panel of guests including 2016 F1 world champion Nico Rosberg.
“It is good to see the new direction of F1 across digital, as a key channel to engage with fans and future fans of the sport,” Rosberg said.
“I was delighted to join this programme when F1 asked me to participate. I love F1 and I believe that we can grow the sport through digital engagement. The Twitter live show is a terrific step forward.”
F1 has over 3.5 million followers on Twitter and 13 million unique users tweeting about #F1. The partnership with the social media platform will also provide fans post-race highlights on Twitter.
“On the heels of the of F1 TV launch announcement, we are thrilled to announce a new initiative aimed at expanding our fan engagement and monetization strategy on Twitter,” added F1’s director of digital Frank Arthofer.
“Twitter came to us early on with an emphasis on co-producing original live content to extend the race weekend dialogue.
“Given how well their platform caters to driving conversation around global live events, the strategic fit was perfect; we’re thrilled to be partnering with them on this show in 2018.”
F1 is also set to launch its new over the top subscription video platform service F1 TV at the Spanish Grand Prix. The live streaming service was originally planned to be introduced at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix but hit delays.
