Renault reveals 2020 F1 livery, new title sponsor
Renault has finally unveiled the livery for its 2020 Formula 1 car ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, as well as the addition of a new title sponsor.
After debuting its RS20 challenger in a one-off ‘stealth’ black livery during pre-season testing at Barcelona, Renault has reverted to its familiar black and yellow colour scheme that has featured on its F1 cars since 2017.
It revealed its 2020 livery at a presentation event at Albert Park on Wednesday prior to this weekend’s opening round of the campaign in Melbourne, with both its drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon in attendance.
It was also confirmed that logistics firm DP World has signed an agreeement to become the team's new title sponsor and global logistics partner starting from the 2020 season. Renault will now be known as the Renault DP World F1 Team.
“We are delighted and honoured to welcome DP World to the Renault family," said Renault Sport chairman Jerome Stoll.
"This is an extremely interesting and exciting collaboration across multiple disciplines. We look forward to working with DP World, a leading global logistics provider, to explore ways of improving our efficiency and mitigating our environmental impact.
"After the ambitions expressed by Formula One to become fully carbon neutral by 2030, we are constantly evaluating ways to reduce our carbon footprint and our turnaround time.
"We expect that working with DP World will reveal opportunities for tangible solutions to some of the logistical challenges faced by our F1 team’s supply chain and by extension, the automotive industry at a larger scale. We also look forward to cross-fertilising our engineering skills through shared innovation.”
Renault is looking to reclaim its position at the head of F1’s midfield pack this year after slipping behind rival and engine customer McLaren to fifth place in the 2019 constructors’ championship.
The Enstone outfit ended up 54 points adrift of McLaren in the championship and was only six points clear of the rebranded AlphaTauri squad as it failed to build upon its fourth-placed finish achieved in 2018.
It proved to be a disappointing season as the French manufacturer aims to return to winning ways in the near-future, with much of its focus centred around the upcoming sporting, technical and financial regulation overhaul in 2021.
The first grand prix weekend track action of the 2020 season gets underway with free practice on Friday, before qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday.
