WATCH: Esteban Ocon takes to the track in new-look Alpine 2021 F1 car
Watch footage from Esteban Ocon’s first outing in Alpine’s new-look 2021 Formula 1 car during a filming day at Silverstone earlier this week.
The Frenchman turned in the A521’s first laps on Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after the rebranded Alpine squad had unveiled its updated challenger for the 2021 F1 season.
Ocon completed 16 laps of Silverstone’s grand prix layout - in line with the 100km testing restrictions for shakedown events - as he put the car through its paces for the first time ahead of the new campaign.
Alpine’s A521 2021 F1 car features a striking new livery consisting of the company’s iconic blue colours, as well as incorporating the red and white of the French flag.
Following his first run in Alpine’s new car, Ocon said: “The car felt nice to drive for the first time and we managed to get through our programme as planned.
“There was a bit of a delay with the fog, but once that cleared, the track was dry and that made the running very enjoyable. I wish I could drive for more than 100km, but that’s the limit, and I leave here with a smile on my face.
“All in all, it was a very interesting day and I can’t wait to discover more about the car. I have to say, I love the new colours. It’s the best-looking car on the grid!”
Ocon will be joined by new teammate Fernando Alonso to give the A521 its first extensive on-track run out in pre-season testing in Bahrain, which takes place next week between 12-14 March.
