Video: Are Mercedes the most dominant F1 team ever?

As Mercedes step up preparations for the 2020 Formula 1 season, it is time to look back on its dominant decade and assess if this is the best team in F1 history.

In 2019 Mercedes matched Ferrari’s all-time record of six consecutive F1 world constructors’ championships, while surpassing the Italian manufacturer for six straight F1 world drivers’ titles, and this season provides the German team with the opportunity to make history by becoming, statistically, the most dominant team ever.

Born from the success of Brawn GP back in 2009, Mercedes made steady progress in the F1 ranks over its opening four seasons back in the sport as a fully-fledged works team, spearheaded by Michael Schumacher reuniting with Ross Brawn with Nico Rosberg continuing to show his promise as a future world champion.

The team truly found its winning combination by capturing the signature of Lewis Hamilton from the 2013 season to join alongside Rosberg. Mercedes took full advantage of its opportunity in the V6 Hybrid era and since 2014 both the team and its drivers have been unbeatable in the F1 world title fights.

Heading into the new season, Mercedes has already demonstrated its engineering excellence and desire to remain top of the pile with the debut of its W11 F1 car and the intriguing new Dual-Axis Steering (DAS) system at 2020 pre-season testing.

While there’s no doubting Mercedes is already one of the strongest teams in F1 history thanks to its record over the past six seasons, can it claim to be the greatest of all time? Let us know in the comments section below.
