Tai steps down from DS Virgin Formula E team principal role
Alex Tai will step down from his role as team principal and CEO of the DS Virgin Racing Formula E squad.
A team statement confirmed Tai, who has led the DS Virgin operation since Formula E’s inaugural 2014-2015 campaign, is leaving his role in order to “focus on his other business activities”.
Sylvain Filippi has been promoted from chief technology officer to run the race team as well as day-to-day operations of the business, though Tai will remain in an advisory role until the end of the current 2017-18 season.

DS Virgin, which currently occupies third place in the teams’ standings having claimed two victories with Sam Bird, will announce a new team principal ahead of season five - which will see the introduction of the ‘Gen2’ Formula E car.
“DS Virgin Racing today announces that Alex Tai is stepping down as Team Principal and CEO to focus on his other business activities. A new Team Principal will be announced before the start of season five,” a team statement read.
“In the meantime, Sylvain Filippi, has been promoted to Chief Operations Officer, and will oversee both the racing activities and day-to-day operations of the business. Alex will remain as an advisor to the team until the end of the season.”
It concluded: “DS Virgin Racing would like to thank Alex as one of the founders of the team for his work in guiding it through four seasons culminating in the many track successes we have achieved in that time. We wish him well with his future endeavours.”
