The CART paddock in Germany is still anxiously awaiting official news of two-time Champion Alex Zanardi following his race-ending accident with Alex Tagliani on lap 141 of 154 of the already muted 'American Memorial' race at the EuroSpeedway in Germany.

According to the CART FedEx Championship's official website (www.cart.com) Zanardi has suffered 'injuries to both lower extremities' and has lost a 'significant amount of blood.' The website also states that Zanardi has been listed as 'extremely critical' and both he and Tagliani are being airlifted to a local hospital.

Tagliani emerged from the incident relatively unscathed although he will still undergo some precautionary checks.

Zanardi was one of several drivers to have replaced their chief sponsors' logo's (Pioneer in Zanardi's case) with American flags as a mark of respect to those killed in Tuesday's terrorist attacks on the USA.
