Season summary:
As the only full-time female driver left in the IndyCar Series following the departure of Danica Patrick at the end of 2011 and the lack of permanent seats for the likes of Katherine Legge, Ana Beatriz and Pippa Mann in 2013, there was a lot of pressure on Simona de Silvestro this season as she had the opportunity to learn from Tony Kanaan at KV Racing. And she acquitted herself extremely well, finishing only 35 points off Kanaan in the championship standings and along the way clinching her first series podium position with second place at the first of the double-header races in Houston. In total there were nine top finishes in 2013 (there was a bit of a mid-season slump) propelling her to her best season result so far in the IndyCar Series. No wonder you've boosted her into the top ten in the voting this year!
