Individual Motocross - changes to the 2002 rules.
Following a request by Dorna Off-Road to the FIM/CMS, the Motocross Grand Prix Permanent Bureau decided to make changes to the 2002 Motocross Rules, amongst which the main ones are the following:
- Practice restrictions: pre-event practice on a Grand Prix circuit by riders competing in the Motocross World Championship is prohibited within 30 days of the date of the Grand Prix, unless with prior written approval from the FIM and the Championship Promoter.

- In the 125cc class, the results of the timed practice session for the 10 automatically qualified riders will determine their starting order for the Grand Prix. The first riders to proceed to the starting gate are the 10 automatically qualified riders present, in the order of their result in the timed practice session.
- Prizes and travel indemnities: all amounts are payable in Euros only.
- For the Solo classes and the Motocross des Nations, the course shall not be shorter than 1.5 km (except for changes necessary for safety reasons and/or force majeure) nor longer than 1.75 km (unless with prior agreement of the FIM/Promoter).
Moreover, the Motocross World Championship event in Teutschenthal on April 28 will be called "Grand Prix of Europe", and the event in Gaildorf on August 18 will be named "Grand Prix of Deutschland".
