2024 Indonesian MotoGP: Qualifying - LIVE!

Follow live updates from Saturday’s qualifying sessions and Sprint race at the 2024 Indonesian MotoGP.

Hot on the heels of last weekend’s Emilia Romagna round, the ‘flyaway’ stage of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship kicks off with the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika.

Despite Jorge Martin losing out on victory to Enea Bastianini on the last lap in Misano, Francesco Bagnaia’s seventh DNF of the season handed the Pramac rider a 24-point title lead over the reigning champion.

Bastianini begins the final six rounds holding third in the world championship, 59 points behind Martin but just one ahead of 2025 replacement Marc Marquez.

Martin won last year’s Mandalika Sprint race to briefly take the 2023 title lead, before a mistake while leading the grand prix handed the initiative back to Bagnaia.

Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo joined race winner Bagnaia on the 2023 Indonesian Grand Prix podium.

Bastianini was quickest during Friday practice for the 2024 event ahead of Martin, Morbidelli and Bagnaia, with Marc Marquez seventh on day one.

Qualifying 1 starts at 10:50am local time (3:50am BST) with the 13-lap Sprint race beginning at 3pm (8am BST).

Jorge Martin takes pole position for the Indonesian MotoGP by 0.535s from Marco Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta!

04:31

Marco Bezzecchi is another faller.... but then rejoins and takes second place on his last lap!

04:29

Meanwhile, GASGAS rookie Pedro Acosta has snatched second place - half-a-second behind Martin - with Bagnaia and Bastianini 3rd and 4th.

04:28

Marquez unsuccessfully tries to bump start his bike in the asphalt run off... but topples over. Bad to worse for Marquez who looks to the sky in frustration as he walks away.

Marquez will start 12th.

04:27

Marc Marquez crashes again!

This time at Turn 10, the scene of his big Friday save.

The Gresini rider must hope he can rejoin or he will start 12th.

04:25

Marc Marquez is tucked up behind Bagnaia.

04:24

Qualifying order heading into the final run: Martin, Zarco, Bezzecchi, Quartararo, Acosta, di Giannantonio, Vinales, Raul Fernandez.

Bagnaia, Morbidelli, Bastianini, M.Marquez no time.

04:22

The crashes and then yellow flags for those two accidents mean Francesco Bagnaia, Franco Morbidelli, Bastianini and Marquez are yet to set a lap time.

Meanwhile, Marc Marquez is now back at the pits after his scooter ride and waiting for his spare bike.

04:21

Another big name goes down: Emilia Romagna winner and Friday leader Enea Bastianini hits the deck at Turn 16.

04:20

It's now clear why Marquez was having to push so hard to try and stay with Martin, the Pramac Ducati rider smashes the lap record on his first flying lap... then goes even faster on the next!

Martin is a huge 0.854s clear of second place Johann Zarco.

04:19

Marc Marquez positions himself behind Jorge Martin for the first run.... then crashes at Turn 15!

Marquez's bike is damaged and the Gresini rider is now running to find a ride back to the pits.

04:15

Qualifying 2 begins and riders head straight out of the pits.

All riders will use the soft rear tyre, but there's a mix of preference between the hard and soft fronts.

04:11

Meanwhile, Johann ZARCO and Raul FERNANDEZ (the lone Trackhouse rider after Miguel Oliveira's wrist fracture) now join the following ten riders in the Qualifying 2 pole position shootout:

Enea BASTIANINI
Jorge MARTIN
Franco MORBIDELLI
Francesco BAGNAIA
Marco BEZZECCHI
Fabio QUARTARARO
Marc MARQUEZ
Pedro ACOSTA
Fabio DI GIANNANTONIO
Maverick VIÑALES

04:09

Binder, one of the most laid-back riders on the grid, must be fuming - he parks at the KTM pits and then jabs his rear brake lever a couple of times with his foot to make the problem clear to his mechanics.

Binder will start 19th on the grid.

04:07

Qualifying 1 over.

Johann Zarco and Raul Fernandez lead the session and join the top ten from Friday afternoon in Qualifying 2.

Jack Appleyard reporting from pit lane that Binder had a rear brake issue, which was why he ran wide.

04:06

Into the last minute of Qualifying 1.

Joan Mir is tucked up behind Alex Marquez, but the Gresini rider loses the front and crashes out at high speed.

Fortunately, Marquez walks away, but that means yellow flags.

04:03

Crash for Aleix Espargaro. He limps away from a Turn 1 fall, his third accident of the weekend, meaning he's lost the chance to try and reclaim a top 2 place.

04:02

Raul Fernandez, Johann Zarco and Aleix Espargaro are on the attack!

Zarco and Fernandez take over the two transfer places... 3mins to go.

Meanwhile, Binder (9th) runs wide, it's not looking good for the KTM rider.

03:59

Mid-session pit stop and it's close at the top: Alex Marquez then Alex Rins +0.050s, Raul Fernandez +0.062s, Johann Zarco +0.122s, Jack Miller +0.142s...

03:55

5mins done and it's Alex Marquez and Alex Rins holding the two transfer places.

Luca MARINI
Alex RINS
Brad BINDER
Aleix ESPARGARO
Jack MILLER

Qualifying 1, for those outside of the top ten on Friday afternoon - including Johann Zarco, Alex Rins, Aleix Espargaro, Brad Binder and Jack Miller - will now begin.

03:41

Pedro Acosta (10th) and Takaaki Nakagami (16th) are the only riders to stay on the medium rear tyre for the whole session.
