2025 Official Buriram MotoGP Test - Day 2 as it happened

Recap Thursday’s second and final day of the 2025 Official Buriram MotoGP test.

The final day of 2025 MotoGP pre-season testing began on Thursday morning at Buriram in Thailand.

New factory Ducati signing Marc Marquez was fastest by 0.465s over younger brother Alex on day one, when the Bologna factory confirmed it is mulling over sticking with the GP24 engine for the factory-spec GP25s this season.

Alex has been fastest on the GP24 at the two previous tests, in Barcelona and Sepang, and will be out to make it a clean sweep of winter P1s for Gresini today.

VR46’s Franco Morbidelli completed an all-Ducati top three on Wednesday ahead of Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi, KTM’s Pedro Acosta and the Hondas of Luca Marini and Johann Zarco.

Jack Miller was the top Yamaha in tenth as the Japanese factory made a humbler start to Buriram compared to its impressive showing at Sepang.

Absent this week are Aprilia’s reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Martin and VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio who were both injured at Sepang. Raul Fernandez, who also required surgery after a first day spill in Malaysia, is back for Trackhouse.

Testing takes place from 10am to 6pm, after which the next MotoGP track action will be opening practice for the Thai Grand Prix on February 28.

Enea Bastianini mirrors Tech3 team-mate Vinales by posting his best lap of the day. Bastianini claims 15th at the end of a tricky pre-season for the Ducati race winner.

10:56

5mins of pre-season testing remaining, 5 riders still on track: Fabio Quartararo, Raul Fernandez, Luca Marini, Enea Bastianini and Miguel Oliveira.

10:52

Some late progress from Maverick Vinales who puts his Tech3 KTM into 9th on the combined timesheets.

10:51

Meanwhile, it's been a strong final afternoon for Honda's Joan Mir, who was not only very quick in his Sprint simulation - second only to Bezzecchi - but is also second to the Aprilia rider on the Session 2 timesheets.

On combined times for the day, Mir is 6th, 0.544s from Marc Marquez.

10:35

After earlier impressing with his Sprint simulation, Marco Bezzecchi moves up to third on the timesheets, 0.205s from leader Marc Marquez.

25mins of testing to go.

10:17

Pedro Acosta long run, 22 laps, average 1m 31.016s.

In other words, almost an exact match for Alex Marquez but a long way off Marc Marquez.

Acosta's KTM team-mate Brad Binder did 24 laps with an average of 1m 31.545s.

10:13

Update from Alex Marquez who said he had "a few problems" in his race simulation but decided to keep going, which explains the size of the (0.7s a lap) gap to brother Marc.

Front tyre temp and pressure plus a "human" electronic issue were Alex's issues.

09:58

Approaching 5pm and there's no major changes for outright best laps (Fabio Quartararo is up to 7th) but we should have some more long run data shortly.

09:36

Stand outs from the race sims so far: Marc Marquez for scorching speed and consistency over a 'GP' run of 23 laps, Marco Bezzecchi for the fastest Sprint, and a surprise Sprint pace from Joan Mir.

09:33

Some long-run averages (grouped over similar distances). Buriram Sprint distance is 13 laps, Grand Prix distance is 26 laps:

Marc Marquez (23 laps) average = 1m 30.378s

Alex Marquez (23 laps) average = 1m 31.071s

Franco Morbidelli (18 laps) average = 1m 31.019s

*If one slow lap to start (1m 32s) is removed, if slow lap kept in Miller's average = 1m 30.871s.

Here it is.

Marc Marquez's official grand prix simulation lap by lap, and under it Alex Marquez's (the only other rider to go the distance so far today).

4pm Results - Buriram MotoGP Test Results, Day 2

No big changes as riders are working on long runs at the moment.

09:08

That's it. Marc Marquez pits after 25 laps (counting out and in laps).

We'll get the official lap by lap later but from what we saw 'live' that looked very fast.

In summary: Marquez's best lap on lap 8 of 25 was a 1m 29.811s. That was beaten only by Marco Bezzecchi with a 1m 29.632s but on lap 3 of a 15-lap Sprint sim.

Marquez looked to be running 1m 30s right to the end of his long run.

09:03

To put Marc Marquez's pace into perspective this was his own Sprint race performance in October's event.

In other words, after 24 laps he's still quicker than his pace after 12 laps on the GP23.

09:01

Marc Marquez's time rises to a 1m 30.994s on lap 23. He keeps going...

08:59

Marc Marquez's 22nd lap is a 1m 30.733s.

Again, from our earlier update: "It looks like we'll see a full grand prix distance from Alex Marquez, who is holding mid 1m 31s pace and now on his 23rd lap."

08:58

To recap, the Marquez brothers are the only riders to have done more than 20 laps during the long runs this afternoon.

08:56

This is quite a display by Marc Marquez, whose 20th lap is a 1m 30.837s.

For comparison, here is our earlier update on his brother's long run: "Alex Marquez is now on lap 20, his last lap was a 1m 31.452s."

08:52

It's looking more and more like a Grand Prix simulation from Marc Marquez.

He's now on lap 18, with his last lap a 1m 30.734s.

08:49

The next few laps will show if Marc Marquez is doing a Sprint simulation or a Grand Prix simulation.

If Marc is doing a Grand Prix simulation the others will be worried, because his best lap is slower only than Bezzecchi (Sprint simulation) and 0.4s faster than brother Alex, who is the only rider to do a GP distance so far this afternoon.

Marc is now on lap 16...

08:44

Marc Marquez's 12th lap is a 1m 30.3s, again underlining Bezzecchi's fast pace (assuming Marquez is also doing a Sprint rather than a full Grand Prix distance).

08:43

Marc Marquez's 11th lap is a 1m 29.953s, so he looks to be slightly quicker than Bezzecchi at the same stage, who was running low 1m 30s.

The official lap-by-lap will confirm later, but there's not much between them at the moment.

08:40

Alex Marquez finally pits after 25 laps, a full Grand Prix distance if you remove the standing start. Good effort from the Gresini rider in the baking heat.

Jack Miller looks to have done 19 laps before pitting.

Fabio Quartararo pits after 14 laps.
