Emilia Romagna MotoGP: Friday practice as it happened

Follow live updates from Friday practice at the 2024 MotoGP Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

The 2024 MotoGP season continues with the 14th round of the campaign and a second visit to Misano.

Due to the cancellation of the Kazakhstan GP, MotoGP returns to Misano two weeks after the San Marino GP for the first Emilia Romagna GP since 2021.

Jorge Martin holds a slender lead in the championship of seven points over Francesco Bagnaia, after a decision to box during a brief spell of rain in the San Marino GP backfired on the Pramac rider.

Marc Marquez comes into the second Misano round seeking a third successive grand prix victory to further reduce his 53-point deficit in the standings to Martin.

Marquez was the last winner of the Emilia Romagna GP in 2021, which marked his final victory with Honda and began a 1043-day win drought.

A test on the Monday after the San Marino GP should mean the field begins the Emilia Romagna GP much tighter than it was two weeks ago.

FP1 starts at 9:45am BST, with Practice at 2pm BST.

15:01

Incident

Enea Bastianini has now gone down at Turn 14. He's ok and is safely into Q2.

15:01

Chequered flag

The chequered flag is out and Francesco Bagnaia will end the session fastest with a 1m30.286s.

15:00

Incident

Brad Binder has now crashed at Turn 6. He's ok, but that has caused more yellow flag chaos for those trying to get into Q2.

Binder's hopes are over as he's currently 15th.

14:59

Incident

Fabio Di Giannantonio has had a horrible accident into Turn 9.

He lost the front and rolled violently through the gravel. Having recently dislocated his left shoulder, that crash is concerning.

14:57

Incident

Jorge Martin has crashed at Turn 8!

The championship leader is ok and he should be safe into Q2, because he's currently second.

14:56

The current top 10 is:

  1. Bagnaia
  2. Martin
  3. M.Marquez
  4. Bastianini
  5. Quartararo
  6. Vinales
  7. Acosta
  8. Miller
  9. Bezzecchi
  10. Morbidelli
14:55

With five minutes to go, almost everyone is now out on track looking to bag a place in Q2.

14:52

Bagnaia goes to the top of the order with a 1m30.286s, which beats his lap record from qualifying at the San Marino GP!

14:50

Martin's 1m30.531s appears to still be on the board despite the yellow flags, so not sure what's happening there. For the time being, a 1m30.585s puts Marc Marquez second.

14:47

Incident

Martin sets a new session-best of 1m30.531s, but it will be scrubbed for yellow flags after Augusto Fernandez crashed at Turn 15.

14:46

Marc Marquez has jumped onto his second bike for this time attack run.

14:46

Martin's 1m31.684s on his first flying lap doesn't trouble his current best, but his second lap is going well.

14:44

Martin begins a flying lap on a new soft tyre but isn't up to much through the first two sectors.

14:43

Marquez had a big moment exiting Turn 10 and has bailed out of this lap into pitlane.

14:41

We've entered the final 20 minutes of Practice and Marc Marquez has gone out on a fresh set of soft slicks.

Let's see what his initial time attack looks like.

14:39

Incident

Alex Marquez has crashed at Turn 1. He just lost the front on the way in on the brakes.

He's up and on his feet.

14:37

That same aero isn't on Bagnaia's bike right now. The world champion has just improved to a 1m30.902s in second.

14:35

Bastianini appears to be running some revised aero on the rear of that Ducati. Looks like very partial wheel covers at the bottom of the rim connected to the swingarm.

14:31

At the halfway stage of the session, the top 10 order is:

  1. Martin
  2. Bagnaia
  3. Bezzecchi
  4. Acosta
  5. M.Marquez
  6. Bastianini
  7. Vinales
  8. Quartararo
  9. A.Marquez
  10. Binder
14:30

Oliveira has made his way back to pitlane with his stricken Trackhouse Aprilia.

14:30

Marco Bezzecchi has moved into third. The VR46 rider is using a fresh soft rear tyre at this stage of the session.

14:26

Martin has gone fastest with a 1m30.844s lap on a used medium tyre.
