Elias overcomes 'mental limitation'.

2005 MotoGP rookie of the year, Toni Elias, made an instant impression in his first grand prix for Honda - when he knocked down world champion Valentino Rossi at the very first turn of the season opening Spanish Grand Prix.

But, fortunately for Elias, that won't be the only reason why Jerez was memorable for the young Spaniard since - having looked slightly out of place during pre-season testing - Toni rode a storming race, finishing within inches of third place Nicky Hayden to record his best finish yet in the premier-class.

But, fortunately for Elias, that won't be the only reason why Jerez was memorable for the young Spaniard since - having looked slightly out of place during pre-season testing - Toni rode a storming race, finishing within inches of third place Nicky Hayden to record his best finish yet in the premier-class.

Elias also defeated Fortuna team-mate, and 2005 MotoGP runner-up, Marco Melandri at Jerez - and takes that confidence boost to this Saturday's Qatar Grand Prix.

"I'm very motivated," he said. "The Spanish Grand Prix gave me a real injection of confidence - not just because fourth place was my best result so far in MotoGP but also because I have overcome a mental limitation. Now I know I am in the right shape to battle with the front guys. Qatar track conditions don't allow for errors and we'll only have four hours available to find the best set-up."

Melandri, who came close to winning last October's event in Qatar, claims he'll also be a force to be reckoned with this weekend.

"I am really confident about this grand prix," declared the laid back Italian. "The day of testing after the race in Jerez was important to understand the direction we need to go in. I am focused and motivated and this track is complete and challenging. I've got good memories of Losail - the race last year was a real turning point in my season."
