Marc Marquez unveils 'Retro' helmet for German MotoGP
Eight time world champion Marc Marquez will wear a special 'Retro' helmet design during this weekend's German MotoGP at the Sachsenring, a circuit where he has been unbeaten since 2009.
The aim of the helmet is to 'evoke the purest form of motorcycling, going back to the late 70s and early 80s… where the image and heroics of racing began to grow, and the design of the helmets became a key attribute of the rider on the track'.
"I'm really excited to be able to wear this special 'Retro' helmet on one of my favourite circuits," Marquez said.
"I wanted to honour the legendary riders of the late '70s and '80s by designing a helmet, and in conjunction with my designer Dave Designs, we thought that a characteristic design that evoked the helmets that were worn at the time, was a beautiful way to pay this tribute to them."
Shoei replicas of the Retro design will go on sale to the public at the start of 2022.
