Japanese MotoGP - Full Qualifying Results

Star rookie Johann Zarco takes pole position for the Japanese MotoGP on a wet but drying track at Motegi, ahead of Danilo Petrucci and Marc Marquez.

Despite falling for the first time since breaking his leg in the previous FP4 session, Valentino Rossi gambled on slick tyres for the start of Qualifying 2. Everyone else used wets.

The Italian pitted for wets after lapping 15sec off the pace - but Marquez surprisingly went the other way, switching from wets to slicks and ultimately dropping from pole to third as a result.

Nonetheless, nearest title rival Andrea Dovizioso could only manage ninth, with third-in-the-points Maverick Vinales just 14th.

Jack Miller is missing the event after breaking his right tibia in a trials incident on September 29 and is replaced by HRC test rider Hiroshi Aoyama.

Tech 3's Jonas Folger has returned to Germany to undergo tests for a suspected recurrence of the Epstein Barr virus and has been replaced by Kohta Nozane.
