The unpredictable front of weather that caused the postponement of Saturday's Busch Grand National race at Memphis wreaked further havoc with Sunday's Winston Cup event at the Martinsville Speedway with the end result being the postponement of the Old Dominion 500 until 11am local time on Monday.

Sunday's Old Dominion 500 at the Martinsville Speedway became the second victim in two days of the current wet weather system slowly working its way across the eastern seaboard of the US as continued drizzle soaked the .526-mile oval throughout Sunday morning forcing NASCAR to reschedule the race for 11am local time on Monday.

On Saturday the weather front forced the postponement of the Busch Grand National race in Memphis and there were doubts as early as Saturday evening as to whether the Winston Cup race would run smoothly on Sunday as the rain steadily drifted over the Appalachians towards Virginia. Still that threat didn't stop the NASCAR fans from packing out the grandstands at the historic circuit for what will be the final short track event of the year but after a two and a half hour rain delay NASCAR finally chose to come back and try again on Monday.

Not everyone was disappointed with the decision for with conditions in Memphis good enough to allow the Busch race to run on schedule there is little doubt that conditions will be dry on Monday. The completion of the Busch race and the delay of the Winston Cup event also mean that Kevin Harvick and Kenny Wallace can take their places in the starting line up.

Both Harvick and Wallace committed themselves to running the BGN event on Sunday, which would have clashed, directly with the Old Dominion 500 had things gone to plan and Mother Nature not intervened. Now, after finishing third and 21st in the BGN race respectively, Harvick and Wallace can turn their attention back to WC and complete their planned double header this weekend, albeit a day late on both counts.

Harvick will start 35th in the No.29 RCR Chevrolet qualified by Rick Mast who was also set to drive on Sunday while Wallace, whose No.1 DEI Pennzoil Chevrolet was earmarked for Kyle Petty, will roll off the grid 37th.
