In a press conference held today at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Herzog Motorsports and baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson, announced a newly formed joint ownership agreement of the No. 92 NASCAR Busch Series race team.

With the new partnership, the team's name will change to Herzog Jackson Motorsports.

"It's hard to put into words how exciting this is for our family and for our race team," said co-owner Randy Herzog. "When the opportunity to partner with Reggie, whom we have known for several years, came along, I knew it would be a perfect fit. He is a strong man who understands commitment and appreciates hard work. In order to achieve success in NASCAR racing, you must have those qualities. This partnership is a dream come true. We have experienced a great deal of success at Herzog Motorsports and feel like the best is yet to come."

"I feel very fortunate to have met a lot of wonderful people throughout the years," stated Jackson. "One such person was Herb Fishel, the Executive Director of GM Racing, whom I met while searching for original and replacement parts for my classic cars. I met Randy and Stan Herzog through Herb, and as you can imagine, we all share a passion for speed. When the opportunity arose to join a first-class organization like Herzog Motorsports, I just couldn't pass it up. I am proud, and more than a little excited, to add the title of owner of a Busch Series team to my list of accomplishments."

Brothers Randy and Stan Herzog, and their father Bill Herzog, formed Herzog Motorsports in 1986 competing initially in off-road racing events. In 1998, the Herzog Motorsports organization moved to asphalt racing, putting rookie driver Jimmie Johnson in the seat.

The team made the jump to the Busch Series in 2000, and for two years straight finished in the top-10 in owner point standings. On July 14, 2001 Herzog Motorsports added a Busch Series victory to its list of achievements when Johnson was first to the chequered flag in the inaugural Hills Bros. Coffee 300 Presented by Sam's Club at Chicagoland Speedway.

The 2002 season marks the first year of the Herzog Jackson Motorsports relationship with driver Andy Houston and the second year in which the No. 92 will sport the red and white colors of Excedrin. Houston, who spent three successful years in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series before moving to the Winton Cup Series in '01, looks forward to the association with Jackson.

"Reggie Jackson is a legend," commented Houston. "He had more success in his career than most of us can ever dream about. He is passionate about everything he does and puts 110 percent effort into everything in which he is involved. Reggie, the Herzogs and I all have the same ideals. This is a great race team and I was looking forward to my first year here already. With the addition of a man of Reggie's caliber to our team I feel like the sky's the limit."
