"Rockingham is a tricky track," says Hamilton Jr "It will challenge you every single lap, but that's what makes it fun. The one thing that Fred keeps reminding me of, is to be patient. Patience is not one of my strong suits as many can tell you, but I know how important it is at a track like this. Being too aggressive will eat up the tires in a hurry, and you cannot win a race at Rockingham that way. Last year, I got my first top-five finish of the year here. This year, I'm hoping to get my first win. "
He will be driving the 'Freedom Car' on one of its two appearances this year. The Freedom Car is so named as it is decorated in honour of America and in particular in tribute of the WWII Battle of Iwo Jima. "I am proud to be a part of such a tribute," Hamilton said. "You always hear stories about the battle of Iwo Jima and how many of these men went ashore knowing that they would lose their lives. How could I not feel honored to be able to pay my respects to those men? The Freedom Car looks awesome and I can't wait to get it on the track at Rockingham and hopefully, take it to victory lane."
Crew Chief, Fred Wanke, gave his thoughts on The Rock: "The Rock is an old track and the surface is pretty worn out, so it's easy to use up your tires early in a long green flag run. Tyre conservation and patience by the driver are key at a track like Rockingham. The driver has to make sure that he does not abuse the tyres and that he can make them last. The game at Rockingham is to see who runs the best on old tyres and who can make them last the longest, because that's the person who will be standing in victory lane at the end of the race."
As well as honouring the bravery and spirit of the United States Marines who fought in the World War II battle of Iwo Jima, with the special paint scheme for the 1-866-RBCTERM.com 200, the team will honour a Beaufort based Marine killed last Sunday.
Captain James B. Blackmon Jr from the All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 533, based in Beaufort in South Carolina, who was killed last Sunday during a training exercise in California. . Team Rensi Motorsports is honouring him with a decal bearing Blackmon Jr's name on the No. 25 Ford Taurus at Rockingham. Members of the Team Marines crew had the opportunity to meet Captain Blackmon at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufortduring their trip to the Recruit Training Depot in Parris Island last month.
