New general manager for Rally Australia.

Telstra Rally Australia has appointed a new general manager for this year's event, which will be held in Perth and surrounding areas between 11-14 November.

John O'Hare, who starts this week, was previously team leader for marine and defence with the Western Australian government's department of industry and resources. His role saw him gain valuable experience in investment attraction, exports, strategic leadership and management, and change management.

His role saw him gain valuable experience in investment attraction, exports, strategic leadership and management, and change management.

"I am very pleased to be joining Telstra Rally Australia," O'Hare admitted, "The event is well regarded around the world and the team is very experienced. I am looking forward to working with them and developing future strategies for the event."

Previous general manager, Bruce Robins, has returned to his original position at the department of industry and resources after a twelve-month secondment.

In another move, Sam Phillips, who has been competitor services assistant for the past two years, has been promoted to competitor services manager, replacing Sally Higgins.

This year, Perth stages the final round of the World Rally Championship, and extra efforts are being made to promote the event as the basis for an extended holiday in Western Australia.
