Aegerter secures second consecutive clean-sweep in ‘perfect event’ at Assen
Dominique Aegerter has extended what was an already impressive WorldSSP championship lead heading into Assen (23) to 44 points following another double win.
The former Moto2 rider, who is also in contention for the MotoE World Cup crown - lies 17 points down on leader Alexssandro Zaccone - now has five wins on the year in just eight races.
Aside from FP1 and Sunday Warm-up, Aegerter led every session in what was one of the more dominating weekend performances in recent WorldSSP seasons.
The Swiss rider’s advantage in the standings was aided by a 13th place result for championship rival Steven Odendaal, who crashed in race two whilst trying to close down Aegerter.
"Perfect event here at Assen, the home race of my Ten Kate Yamaha team. We took the pole position, then the fastest lap and race win yesterday, and the same again today, so I don’t think it could have gone much better," said Aegerter.
"It’s perfect to show our potential, especially with this special livery, and it was great to have the crowd and our sponsors here to enjoy a bit of history together.
"In the first five laps we had a great battle, but I knew I had more speed, so I just took the lead and continued to improve my pace.
"I built a gap of over five seconds, but the last few laps were a little bit difficult because it was hard to keep the speed without the pressure behind pushing me on.
"To leave here with 44 points ahead in the championship is nice, so for sure we will all celebrate this together."
