Over 17,000 back Mallory Park e-petition
To date, over 17,000 people have signed an e-petition in a fight to safeguard the future of Mallory Park.
Residents near the circuit, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and Mallory Park's leaseholders have clashed over noise regulations against a backdrop of conjecture the iconic British track could be sold off to a property developer - a rumour that has been strenuously denied.
A maximum of 100,000 signatures are required before the Government will discuss the issue.
A statement issued by Mallory Park today said: "It takes 100,000 signatures before the Government discusses it; that would be an incredible figure to hit and show real support for UK motorsport.
"Alongside this petition Mallory Park continues to negotiate with the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and other interested parties in an effort to remain operational.
"Mallory Park thanks everyone who takes the time and effort to sign this petition."
Situated in the village of Kirkby, Mallory, between Leicester and Hinckley, the circuit has been hosting motorsport event since the mid-1950s.
It was part of the British Superbike Championship calendar up until the 2011 season.
