Josh Waters has topped the timesheets in a damp FP3 session at Brands Hatch, but the main talking point was title contender Ryuichi Kiyonari's crash and subsequent injury.
The Japanese rider suffered a high-side at Graham Hill Bend and fell heavily, the three-time champion promptly taken to the medical centre where an x-ray revealed he sustained an undisplaced fracture of the left collarbone.
Indeed, the tricky conditions would favour those with impressive credits in the rain, with Waters - who has won in the wet at Brands Hatch and Assen this year - emerging fastest, ahead of damp FP1 pace setter Howie Mainwaring.
Josh Brookes was third best from Jon Kirkham and Dan Linfoot, with Julien Da Costa, Jakub Smrz and Filip Backlund covering sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.
With Kiyonari potentially out of contention, Shane Byrne - who leads the standings by 12 points - stand to benefit fully, the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider keeping it steady with the ninth best time in FP3.
