Clutch problems for BSS Robinson at Donington.

JR Motosport rider Jamie Robinson made it five points scoring rides on the trot as he ended the 2004 British Supersport Championship with a 14th place finish at Donington Park in Leicestershire yesterday.

Yorkshireman Robinson had to overcome the wet conditions during Friday's testing but once that had given way to the sunny but blustery conditions, he set about qualifying whereby he ended up on row four of the grid after Saturday's two timed sessions.

In the actual race, Robinson knew that a great start was vital given he was surrounded by regular front runners Leon Camier and Simon Andrews but any hopes he had were dashed when the clutch overheated meaning he lost places as the pack left the grid.

The 28 year old from Holmfirth soon set about redressing the balance and gradually clawed his way through the field, despite his best efforts he could climb no higher than 14th but at least took consolation in beating regular podium finisher Leon Camier to the flag.

"I was a bit gutted to be honest as I felt I should have finished higher but as soon as the clutch started playing up I knew I was up against it," said Robinson. "I battled hard and just ran out of time in catching the pack in front but at least I added a few more points to the tally and improved my championship position.

"It's been a hard slog this year but we've made improvements as the season has progressed and for whatever reason, we've struggled with the bike a little. I now need to go away over winter and sort out our game plan so we come back better and stronger in 2005," said the former 250cc British Champion.

Meanwhile 17 year old team mate Paul Veazey couldn't quite manage to round off the season as he'd have liked in the points and had to settle for a 23rd place at the flag after 18 gruelling laps. From a row seven start, the Middlesbrough teenager once again got shuffled out on the first corner meaning he had to play catch up for the third race in a row.

"I couldn't believe my luck as I'd got another good start and still I ended up on the rumble strip at Redgate Corner. I was riding as hard as I could and could see the group in front of me but I just couldn't catch them. It was a bit of a lonely race but I enjoyed it and hopefully what I've learned from this year can be put to good use next season," said Veazey who to his credit, has finished in all thirteen races of the season.
