McGuinness 13th in Daytona AMA SBK qualifying.
John McGuinness and his AIM British Superbike team have flown over to America to take part in the first round of the AMA Superbike championship at Daytona Raceway in Florida.
The Morecombe rider, instead of using the Yamaha R1 the team will use in the British Superbike championship, is using the Kawasaki ZX-10R that was originally planned to be used for BSB.
It wasn't until the team had announced its 2005 plans that the decision was made to switch to Yamaha power for the up coming season.

Therefore the team and John have used the spare Kawasaki machine to compete in the AMA opener.
McGuinness has remained in the top 15 during practice to take the 13th spot in qualifying for Saturday's race.
Former BSB and World Superbike champion Neil Hodgson has taken the third spot of the grid on his factory supported Ducati 999. But as in the first round of WSBK 2005, it was the Suzuki GSX-R1000 that stole the top two position, with the pole sitter Mat Mladin over 1.5secs ahead of third placed Hodgson.
