‘Confidence and belief’ returning for Redding
Scott Redding says it is ‘amazing’ to be battling for race wins once again as he notched up his first two-wheel success in six years with a terrific treble in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship over the weekend.
Eleven years after he wrote history at Donington Park as the youngest rider to win a GP race aged just 15-years old, the 2013 Moto2 runner-up was back on top of the podium with his maiden BSB wins for Be Wiser Ducati.
Conclusive proof the ex-MotoGP rider – who raced with Honda, Ducati and Aprilia over five full seasons – is a serious contender for the BSB title in his inaugural season, Redding says it is exciting to be fighting for his first honours since the 2013 Moto2 season when he scored three wins.
"I just showed to myself the confidence and belief that I’ve got, which is something that I’ve been working on over the past years,” he said. “It just feels amazing to be back in a fighting position and winning races.
"It’s not easy out there, those guys are so strong the first few laps and I just need a bit of time to find my way, and they attack and that’s great racing so I was a bit more fortunate to kind-of get out of it.
"I led a bit then Xavi [Fores] came past and I thought ‘he’s going again’. He was going so fast in the beginning and then I managed to close the gap a little bit to him and Brookes and go through I thought ‘right, just be consistent’, that’s my strongest point - I can be very consistent every lap of the race and I managed it perfectly.
Showing impressive versatility in race conditions by fighting up the order in races one and two before controlling the pace out front, Redding – who now leads the BSB standings - says he now has a greater understanding of his Ducati and the Pirelli tyres.
"I was just understanding more the tyres because I’m still very new to the Pirellis and all the races I’ve done so far this year I’m always attacking I’m always trying to get the best I can. That’s the first race [race 3] where I could control and kind-of learn the tyres, so I learned over the three races and I’m very happy.”
If you hadn’t realised, Scott Redding’s success at Donington Park was also a historic one for the @OfficialBSB too as he became the series 50th different race winner…
