Elliott thanks OMG Racing as photos emerge of spectacular smash

Josh Elliott has given a ‘massive thank you’ to the OMG Racing team for repairing his BSB Suzuki GSX-R1000R after splitting it in two in a spectacular accident at Donington Park.

The Englishman, who scored his first BSB during the Silverstone season opener in April, slid off the machine at the Craner Curves during FP2, with the bike digging into the ground before spiralling into a destructive series of barrel-rolls.

Coming to rest in two pieces having scattered parts across the grass as it disintegrated, while Elliott – who detached from the low-side early in the accident – was unhurt, it forced OMG Racing into a complete rebuild.

Remarkably, the team followed through and had Elliott back on track in FP3 and Qualifying. Though Elliott went on to have a tough three races outside of the points, he was amazed to be out on track at all after Friday’s incident.

“Really tough weekend, I probably had the biggest crash of my career in FP2 down Craner Curves and completely destroyed the bike which gave the team a lot of work to do. A massive thank you to the whole team, they’ve done an amazing job to basically build a brand-new bike for Saturday.

“I just couldn’t believe it, to come back into the garage on Saturday morning and see the bike running was amazing. We had a few small issues in the race, obviously with the bike being built brand new you run into a few technical problems here and there.

“Just a big learning curve really! That’s all I can say! We’ll take what we’ve learned this weekend and be back stronger at Brands Hatch.”
