Pedro Lamy told his team management that he wants to leave the Service 24h AMG Mercedes team, with just two rounds of the 2001 DTM series completed.
The Portuguese driver claims that not being able to shoot for victories with a 2000-spec Mercedes-Benz CLK was behind his decision to step down as partner to Briton Darren Turner.
"The DTM is a very competitive championship with a big media impact," Lamy explained, "It was fun to participate in this series in the last year and in this season's first two races, but the most important thing in a race driver's life, however, is the opportunity to race for victory anytime, and that is what I missed. Although I felt very comfortable as a member of the Rosberg team, I think the time has come to look for opportunities which give me a chance to win each race I take part in."
The Rosberg team - run by 1983 F1 world champion Keke Rosberg - thanked Lamy for the co-operation over the past year and a bit, while Mercedes-Benz Motorsport will comply with the driver's request to support him finding a new successful engagement, after wishing him all the best for his sporting career.
