Jack Aitken will hope to get the upper-hand on fellow Brit George Russell as the pair dual it out in 2018 as team-mates once more, albeit this time in F2. Aitken, the most senior Renault Academy driver on the motorsport ladder, was beaten to the 2017 GP3 title by Russell but will be determined to fight back this season.
Usurping Russell in F2 would go some way in proving Aitken’s calibre and would boost his hopes of landing an F1 seat in the near-future, with eyes at Enstone keen to see whether the 22-year-old can make similar progress to his improvements in going from his fifth place in the 2016 GP3 standings to runner-up spot last year.
An impressive rookie F2 campaign could place him as a standout candidate to land a future F1 seat with Renault, depending on how the 2019 F1 driver market plays out. As one of the oldest drivers in this list, and being older than a number of F1 drivers, it is vital Aitken makes the most of his opportunity.
