Red Bull
Despite boasting a history stretching back many more decades, both Red Bull and Chelsea really emerged in the mid-2000s out of relative obscurity, disrupting the traditional status quo at the top of their sports.
Both enjoyed an early spell of domination before cementing themselves at the top table against some more established, as well as changing perceptions on what it took to fund their interests: Chelsea was the first club in England to enjoy significant foreign investment changing its fortunes (literally), while Red Bull dismissed the idea that only manufacturers could be successful in F1, toppling the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari as a “fizzy drinks company”.
Despite some yo-yoing fortunes in recent years, Red Bull and Chelsea remain significant threats at the sharp end of the order. Their rises may have been meteoric and swift, but don’t go thinking that means they are flash-in-the-pans.
