The Silverstone records Hamilton could smash, and the one he wants to avoid…
Lewis Hamilton heads into his home F1 race at the British Grand Prix after making his worst start to a season since 2009.
With just two podiums in the opening nine grands prix of the year, Hamilton is only sixth in the drivers’ championship.
An inconsistent Mercedes W13 combined with some bad luck has meant that Hamilton has struggled, even compared to new teammate George Russell, who is 34 points ahead in the standings.

Silverstone could be a great opportunity for Mercedes with its smooth track surface and high-speed corners expected to suit the Mercedes package - think back to Barcelona where Hamilton showed great race pace (similar to eventual race winner Max Verstappen) to recover to fifth from the back of the grid after his collision with Kevin Magnussen.
Here are three records that Hamilton could break this season - two positive and one less so…
Most wins at the same grand prix
Hamilton has eight wins at the British Grand Prix (2008, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021).
The seven-time champion also has eight wins at the Hungarian Grand Prix, while Michael Schumacher has eight victories at the French Grand Prix.
Victory for Hamilton on Sunday would give him the record of the most wins at the same grand prix.
Most podiums on home soil
Hamilton is currently level with four-time world champion Alain Prost with 11 podiums each on home turf.
The Mercedes driver has 11 podiums at the British GP, while Prost stood on the podium the same amount of times in France.
Could Hamilton go 11 races without a win?
Hamilton has gone 10 races without a grand prix victory, one more race then it will be a record.
He went 10 races without a win in 2008 following the Chinese Grand Prix before returning to the top step at the Hungaroring in 2009.
Hamilton won the 2012 United States GP before going on a 10-race streak of not winning again, up until the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix.
That was his only victory for Mercedes in that season, going on another 10-race streak before standing on the top step in the second race of 2014.
