Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore are set to end their involvement with London football club Queens Park Rangers, according to a report in the London Evening Standard.

Ecclestone and Briatore are part owners of the club along with Lakshmi Mittal but are now keen to sever their ties with the club. Briatore was in the position of chairman before standing down earlier this year due to the pressure he was under from fans.

According to the report, Force India team owner Vijay Mallya has emerged as the man keen to take over from the pair, with the possibility that a deal could be concluded in a matter of weeks.

Mallya already owns a team in cricket's Indian Premier League and was linked to a move for QPR two years ago.

The team currently sits top of the English Championship, which is one tier down from the Premiership.
