Kubica 'will recover completely', manager insists
Robert Kubica 'will recover completely' from his career-threatening rallying accident back in February and will return to F1, his manager has confidently asserted - revealing that the Pole 'is getting better all the time'.
Kubica suffered serious hand, arm and leg injuries after he crashed on the Ronde di Andora Rally in northern Italy just under four months ago, and has since been sidelined from action indefinitely as he undergoes a rehabilitation process, with nobody greatly sure about whether or not he will ever be able to rejoin the grand prix grid.
Lotus Renault GP majority owner G?rard Lopez stirred up a hornet's nest when he claimed on the eve of last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix - a race in which Kubica had finished up on the podium only twelve months earlier - that 'it's almost certainly not going to be possible for him to return to racing this season' and that at the most optimistic, the 26-year-old might be able to participate in a Friday practice session towards the end of the campaign [see separate story - click here].
That surprisingly bold pronouncement, however, has received short shrift from Kubica's manager Daniele Morelli, who - amidst rising speculation that if the former Canadian Grand Prix-winner does return, it will not be with Renault - retorted that Fridays are merely for 'rookies' and rubbished notions that his driver will never regain sufficient fitness to race an F1 car again.
"He is getting better all the time," the Italian told Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat. "His condition has improved significantly. We should be finalising the rehabilitation plans in August, and with the right training, the physical weaknesses will have been treated.
"For the future, we are positive. The specialists believe that Robert will recover completely, and his enthusiasm for racing is the same as before. He is closely following F1 as well as rallies."
