Just days after being confirmed as a Lotus Renault driver for the 2012 F1 season, Kimi Raikkonen has avoided serious injury after crashing during a snowmobile race in Austria.

Raikkonen was competing in the event when he fell from his machine and was ruled out of the remainder of the weekend after being treated by paramedics.

Luckily for both Raikkonen and the team, the 2008 title winner escaped serious injury.

"We just spoke to Kimi," a message on the Renault team's Twitter feed read. "There's nothing to worry about, he only has a sore wrist. He might have it checked again on Monday, but that's all."

Raikkonen secured his return to F1 with the Enstone-based team after Robert Kubica failed to recover from the injuries he sustained in a rallying accident prior to the start of the 2011 campaign.
