Fernando Alonso remains top in the battle for the F1 2012 Drivers' Championship, but after getting caught up in the carnage at the start of today's Belgian GP and after failing to score, his points lead is cut from 40 points to 24.

Sebastian Vettel meanwhile leaps up from third in the standings to second, after taking the runners-up spot at Spa-Francorchamps, while Mark Webber drops behind his team-mate, 8 points back and only 1 point up on Kimi Raikkonen.

Lewis Hamilton - who was also taken out at the start - slips to fifth, 16 points up on Jenson Button, who, despite winning, is still 63 points behind Alonso.

Red Bull Racing extends its lead in the Constructors' Championship, albeit by just 1 point, with McLaren now 54 points back in second. Lotus, Ferrari and Mercedes remain third, fourth and fifth respectively.
