It was announced on the Thursday before the Japanese Grand Prix that Ukyo Katayama, the Japanese Minardi driver, will be bowing out of F1 at the end of the season. It is understood that he had intended to make a move across the pond to the CART series but had been asked to stay if F1 for another season. Now though, he has decided that it is time to move on and make room for younger drivers.
It seems that the most likely replacement for Katayama will be Spaniard, Pedro De La Rosa, the 1997 Japanese F3000 driver and Bridgestone Prot?g?.
